Can Eating Like A Caveman Actually Help You Lose Weight, Reduce Diabetes Risk and Improve you Heart Health ? Find out in this article how the Paleo Diet can help to prevent Heart Failure and Diabetes Type 2 as well as Losing Weight.

The Paleo diet, also referred to as the Paleolithic diet or the Caveman diet, is a very simple program that is centered on certain types of allowable foods. Foods that are allowed are those that were eaten by our ancient ancestors prior to the boom of agriculture. These items include meats, fish, eggs, vegetables, shellfish, roots, berries, fruits, nuts, mushrooms, and the like. Foods that would not be allowed are white potatoes, sugars, processed foods, dairy, beans, legumes, and grains.

Certain types of oils are also allowed on this diet. These oils include those that are derived from tree nuts or fruits such as avocado, olive, palm, almond, pecan, hazelnut, coconut, walnut, or macadamia. Processed or seed oils are not acceptable. Meats eaten should be wild game when possible, however grass fed meat can be substituted. It is necessary that the meat be grass fed because the omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids are properly balanced. Bone marrow and organ meats are also allowed, however no processed meats should be eaten.

Heart Health

On the Paleo diet, you’ll be eating more fish, which means an increased intake of omega-3 fatty acids. According to the American Heart Association, increased omega-3 consumption lowers your blood pressure, decreases triglyceride levels and lessens your risk of sudden cardiac death.

If you are concerned about your heart health on the Paleo diet, ask your doctor for medical supervision. He can monitor your cholesterol levels and blood pressure, tracking improvement and ensuring you remain healthy.

Lower Diabetes Risk

Eating a high-fiber diet helps control your blood sugar levels, which can reduce your risk for Type-2 diabetes, according to MayoClinic.com. Eating Paleo offers these benefits as long as you’re enjoying plentiful fruits and vegetables at every meal.

Weight Loss

When you stop eating high-calorie, high-carbohydrate foods like dairy, rice, oats and bread, you’ll likely experience weight loss. The primary sources of carbohydrates on a Paleo diet are fruits and vegetables.

Fights Autoimmune Disorders

Your immune system is meant to protect you from viruses, bacteria and parasites by attacking dangerous invaders. In autoimmunity, your immune system malfunctions and attacks your body instead of these invaders. Health conditions linked to autoimmunity include celiac disease, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis. Each of these conditions seem to share the common symptom of intestinal lining damage, also known as leaky gut. A version of the Paleo diet designed specifically to help those with autoimmune disorders eliminates eggs, nuts, seeds and members of the nightshade family, such as paprika, tomatoes, eggplant and peppers. Such a diet might yield relief from leaky gut syndrome and autoimmune disorder improvements; this is best done under medical supervision.
